Public Accounting Experience
Tim has thirty-three years of public accounting experience. He joined Hughes Pittman & Gupton, LLP in 1992 after 19 years with KPMG. Tims practice now is centered on entrepreneurial businesses and their founders that include owner-managed businesses and investor-financed technology companies in the Triangle. He is the practice leader for Life Science and Sarbanes Oxley services.
Tim was previously with KPMG Peat Marwick in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 19 years, nine years as an audit partner. At KPMG, Tim was partner in charge of the financial institutional practice and served as an Associate SEC Reviewing Partner for public companies.
Tim has served as the engagement partner and business advisor to private and public company clients ranging from start-up companies financed by private venture capital to multinational public companies. He has experience auditing companies in a wide range of industries including life sciences, information technology, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, construction, retirement plans, financial institutions, governmental, government contracting, mortgage banking, non-profit and real estate.
During his career at KPMG, Tims responsibilities have included administrative partner-in-charge of the audit department, associate SEC reviewing partner, professional practice/quality control partner and director of financial services.
Industry Experience
Biotech CFO and Co-Founder
Tim is currently a co-founder and start-up chief financial office for Alphavax, Inc., a vaccine company based on new genomic vector technology from the University of North Carolina and for CropSolution, Inc., an agricultural chemical company. He is also a financial advisor for Sicel Technologies, Inc., a medical device company based on implantable sensor technology.
Tim served as the start-up chief financial officer for Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company founded in 1995. Inspire was funded by a consortium of leading venture capital investors to develop respiratory therapeutic drugs from technology transferred from the University of North Carolina and became a public company in 2000.
Tim was a co-founder and start-up chief financial officer for SARCO, Inc., a combinatorial chemistry company that was sold to a public company in 1997.
Tim served as the start-up chief financial officer for Trimeris, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company in the Triangle that was founded in early 1993. Trimeris is a public company that was funded by a leading venture capital investor to develop antiviral therapeutic drugs from technology transferred from Duke University.

Tim is an advisor to Hatteras HBM Capital, a clinical stage venture fund.

Family Office
Tim is a founder and president of Research Triangle Family Office, LLC, a company providing fiduciary services for families in the Research Triangle area.
In 1991, Tim was the chief operating and financial officer for Johns Island, a prestigious real estate development in Florida, and the owners family office.
