“Liz’s articulate and insightful presentation to our members was right on target, addressing the needs and situations that many are facing as they look for work,” said Al Rankin, support group co-leader. “She is adept at translating complex tax requirements into understandable concepts while adding a dash of humor. We are grateful for her time.”
Broadway’s discussion included a review and tips on:
The presentation highlighted 18 ways to relieve tax burdens and potentially increase tax refunds. These included income that is not taxable, expense deductions that many job seekers may have incurred, as well as tax credits that are frequently overlooked. Important to note, is that IRA and retirement plan distributions run the risk of an early withdrawal penalty. Broadway recommends consulting a financial professional before utilizing this option to pay bills.
“As many North Carolinians are looking for employment, I wanted to share some tips that might help them save a few dollars,” added Broadway. “Hopefully, attendees will be able to use this information to help ease their difficult situations.”
