RALEIGH, N.C. (April 16, 2008) – Hughes Pittman & Gupton, LLP (HPG), the largest locally owned and managed certified public accounting firm in the Triangle, announced today that partner Tim Gupton has been named 2008 Top RTP Dealmaker by Business Leader, the park guide magazine. Gupton is listed among the top 20 prominent Triangle dealmakers profiled in the magazine’s Spring 2008 special edition issue. Dealmakers were recognized for leadership, as well as commitment to community endeavors.
Gupton has been a CPA for 35 years and founded Research Triangle Ventures in 2001. His practice covers many investor-backed companies in the Life Sciences field. Gupton joined HPG in 1992, and was previously with KPMG Peat Marwick in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 19 years.
Tim is currently a co-founder and start-up chief financial officer for Alphavax, Inc., a vaccine company based on new genomic vector technology from the University of North Carolina, and the start-up chief financial officer for Colucid Pharmaceuticals, Inc., which is developing migraine drugs licensed from Ely Lilly. He is also a financial advisor for Sicel Technologies, Inc., a medical device company based on implantable sensor technology.
Tim served as the start-up chief financial officer for Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company based on technology from the University of North Carolina that was founded in 1995 and became a public company in 2000. Gupton was also a co-founder and start-up chief financial officer for SARCO, Inc., a combinatorial chemistry company that was sold to a public company in 1997.
