RALEIGH, N.C. (May 19, 2009) – Hughes Pittman & Gupton, LLP (, the largest locally owned and managed, independent CPA firm in North Carolina, announces today that the Small Business and Technology Development Center’s 2009 Meet the Expert series includes sessions presented by two of the firm’s CPAs. Susan Martin, audit manager and leader of the Government Grant and Contracts team, and Heather Dean, tax partner and leader of the Corporate Tax team, are conducting a training session on structuring businesses to maximize profits.

HPG is a statewide sponsor of SBTDC programs, and partners regularly to conduct and host live sessions and webinars for the organization. On May 13, Martin taught about reviewing compliance requirements after being awarded a government grant.

“There is so much more to running a technology company than having the latest innovation,” says Martin. “To really grow these companies, it is important to have them structured and managed effectively with an understanding of government grant and tax requirements.”

SBTDC also offers training sessions on topics on grantsmanship, proposal preparation and project budgeting. To learn more about the education opportunities available through the SBTDC visit
